10 TV Shows That RECAST Major Characters

Bewitched entertained an entire generation over the course of its near-decade run as the classic '60s comedy about a witch attempting to become a suburban housewife after she married a mortal has gone down in history as one of the greatest sitcoms of all time.

Dick York played the aforementioned mortal that found his way into the heart of Elizabeth Montgomery's nose-twitching Samantha and he did such an effortless job that it's hard to believe that he wasn't the first choice to play the role. Unfortunately, he experienced chronic back pain throughout his time on the show (due to a severe back injury he suffered in an earlier film) and, as it began to have more of an impact on his life, he was forced to leave during its fifth season.

Dick Sargent replaced him from the sixth season onwards and remained in the role until Bewitched's conclusion following its eighth season. In a way, this was quite ironic given that Sargent was the original choice to play the character. However, both actors did a great job, bringing Darrin to life in their own unique ways.
