10 TV Shows That Should've Been Cancelled Sooner

Another culprit of the previous entry’s problems, E4’s Misfits started out as a refreshingly alternative British comedy following a group of young offenders sentenced to undertake community service together who obtain supernatural powers after a freak storm. Starring an ensemble cast featuring now-established actors like Robert Sheehan and Iwan Rheon, the show was immensely popular with young adults thanks to its humour and tackling of real world issues alongside the sci-fi components.

The first season was similarly well regarded by critics, and quickly renewed for a second, which also did well. Despite this, the end of the second season saw Sheehan leave the main cast. After season three, three more members of the core five jumped ship, leaving Nathan Stewart-Jarrett as the only original lead still involved. This would have been a wise place to let the show rest, but instead showrunners replaced the characters with three new stars, as they had with Sheehan’s slot for season two.

Most agree that both the viewer ratings and the quality of the show took a nosedive following this mass migration, and after Stewart-Jarrett left mid-season four, the show was left to struggle through the rest of its season and a half run with none of the original cast members involved.

While there can be no criticism of the new actors that were drafted to fill out the show, it is a well known fact that shows often lose their original charm along with their initial leads, and Misfits is no exception. When your actors call it quits, the show should too. At least many of them went on to bigger and better things.
