10 TV Shows That Went From Great To Terrible SO FAST

Beginning in 2011 with the audacious The National Anthem, perpetually peeved critic/walking embodiment of Generation X Charlie Brooker had a hit instantly with Black Mirror, which once seemed like the natural successor to Rod Serling’s iconic Twilight Zone.

The show was never perfect, but gripping stand out instalments like The Entire History of You and White Bear offered dark and troubling ruminations on humanity’s irresponsible treatment of technological advances.

Then the show moved to Netflix.

And stayed great!

The series may have gained a bigger budget but remained brutally bleak, meaning rare poignant instalments such as the superb San Junipero shone all the brighter.

Then came the fifth season.

The once edgy and intense sci-fi series became self parody with this season, which included a grunge Miley Cyrus Disney Channel movie and a flat, uninspired video game romance that ripped off the show’s own finer hours.

Without anything new or interesting to say, the show retreated into the “isn’t modern music rubbish? what if you could hook up in video games?” comfort zones of stunted sci-fiwriters, and became an embarrassing shadow of its former self.
