Phase One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't perfect - Iron Man 2 is among the worst MCU offerings, and all of the standalone movies would have sequels that bettered them, despite their qualities. It was all worth it, though, because of the build to The Avengers, and that paid off beyond anyone's wildest dreams.

The Defenders, then, was supposed to be the Netflix Marvel Universe's version of The Avengers: all of the heroes we've been following for the last couple of years finally coming together in a much-anticipated team-up, even if the path there was slightly rocky at times.

But then instead of a true event, it takes three hours for the Defenders to even begin teaming-up, is mostly a bore, and worst of all never gives a good reason for them to be a team in the first place beyond the corporate mandate.
