The Basics: A spin-off of NCIS, NCIS: LA has distinguished itself quite well with the undercover and high-tech narrative of the show. Callen and Hanna lead the team of crack undercover agents who can slip into character almost at will. Heading up this division, Hetty, the demure Assistant Director, is more a stern mother figure than strict authoritarian like Director Vance on NCIS. We follow along with our heroes as Callen looks for clues to his past, Hanna works to keep his marriage stable while working on assignment, and the rest of the team goes through changes of their own. The Turn Up: One word: Deeks. Above anything that has happened so far, the turmoil that Deeks has had to go through with his torture and the aftermath have colored the narrative of the show for the better. Adding a much needed layer of emotional - and plot-driven - weight, we see how his ordeal has not only affected him, his teammates and the way the investigation commences, but also his own relationship with fellow Agent Kensi Blye. Callen's continued search for answers about his past has been heating up over the last few months since the season began and looks to be coming to a head. It would seem that there is much more to this show than first met the eye. And there you have it! 10 shows that have gone from "good" to "great" in 2013.
