10 TV Shows With Major Behind The Scenes Tension

7. Roseanne

Where to start. To this day, Roseanne Bar is still waging war on the former writers and producers of her sitcom, Roseanne. She claims to have been duped out of a creator credit on the show. And at that point, according to an article she wrote in New York Magazine in 2011, she began to plot firing them. She wanted the man who took creator credit, Matt Williams, gone from the production (and soon enough, he was, moving on to Home Improvement). She claims this was an issue of sexism, though it should be noted that he also got a creator credit on Home Improvement, despite it, like Roseanne, being based on its star's stand-up act. She admits in the very same article to holding a pair of scissors threateningly to a crew member - yet complains that she was the victim of a hostile work environment. In short, while entertaining, just like she always was, Roseanne is nuts. Laurie Gelman, the first female writer-producer to work on Roseanne, happened to chime in back in 2011, stating that it was Roseanne herself that was sexist. On writer Kevin Levine's blog, she stated that "This is a woman who is definitely threatened by smart, funny women and has to alpha dog all competitors." Sounds about right.
