10 TV Shows You Didn't Know Were Being Revived

7. The Ren & Stimpy Show

Nickelodeon

The history of The Ren & Stimpy Show is one filled with both brilliance and brutality.

Created by John Kricfalusi - who also voiced Ren for the first two seasons - the series quickly became a cult favourite upon debuting in 1991. Brimming with dark humour, innuendo and shock tactics, the adventures of an erratic, hair-trigger tempered chihuahua and a happy-go-lucky cat jumped out from the pack as something truly different during its run.

Kricfalusi will not be a part of this revival, though, with him being fired by Nickelodeon after The Ren & Stimpy Show's second year. At that time, the property's creator was impossible to work with for Nick in terms of scheduling and deadlines, while he was an aggressive, overly-demanding figure for the cast and the crew of to work with.

Added to that, Kricfalusi has since been forced into retirement after allegations of sexual harassment and grooming came to the fore in more recent years.

One person who thankfully will be back in action is voice acting royalty Billy West, who'll be joining some of the original show's writers and hopefully long-time director Bob Camp.

This return of Ren and Stimpy was hoped to be on our screens in the first half of 2021, yet the global pandemic has caused delays to come into play. With Nickelodeon Animation Studio producing for Comedy Central, the hope is that this new Ren & Stimpy Show lands before the year is out.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
