10 TV Shows You Didn't Know Were Returning
8. Fawlty Towers
Classic '70s sitcom Fawlty Towers is another show that folks have tried their best to remake over the years.
ABC failed twice to bring in an audience for their American spin on the John Cleese-starring series, and CBS' Payne also didn't exactly recreate the magic of that British hit in 1999.
However, even after Basil Fawlty himself went as far as to state in 2009 (via BBC) that the cast would never return for a remake due to it likely being "good but not very good" after the bar was set so high by those original two seasons, it appears there is still some life in a Towers reboot yet.
It was reported in February (via BBC) that Cleese would be officially returning to the lead role for a new season after 40+ years away. Not only that, the comedy legend would also be penning the script and starring alongside his daughter Camilla Cleese in the revival.
Said long-awaited next chapter in the Fawlty story will focus on the anti-social Basil trying to deal with the modern world. Cleese would then add, in a July chat with Style, that this sitcom return would likely be set in the Caribbean - because, why not? But he was also quick to note how they actually only possess "half an idea" for the Fawlty comeback at this stage.
It's a start, at least.
