7. The Haunting Of Hill House
The Haunting of Hill House is quite unlike anything else. It could have easily played on common tropes of a haunted location, but Hill House is so much more than that.
Instead of focusing on cheap scares, this show centers around the dynamic of a family that is falling apart at the seams. Each member of the family is struggling with their own figurative demons, such as loss or addiction. As the family tries to white knuckle their problems, it becomes increasingly more obvious that their issues seem to stem from a traumatic event that they experienced at Hill House in their formative years.
From the first episode, the Haunting of Hill House seems to be glaringly obvious in where it is heading, but manages to continuously subvert expectations along the way. Filled to the brim with plot twists, tense moments, and cover your eyes with the blanket scares, this is a selection that should not be missed. A rare treat in Netflix original programming, season two is headed to the streaming platform in the summer of 2020.
A greatly enjoyable and terrifying ride, Hill House is an easily binge-able show. Remember to leave at least one light on, you can thank me later.
