10 TV Sidekicks Who Were Way Better Than Their Stars

5. Dwight Schrute - The Office

Everyone who works in an office knows this person, this awful human who is somehow capable of taking the soul-sucking atmosphere of a modern work environment and making it even worse. And while it's horrible when you have to deal with them in real life, it's hilarious to watch it play out on television. Dwight Schrute is a no-nonsense office drone who is very susceptible to letting even the tinest amount of power go to his head, and if he ever had a sense of humor, he seems to have had it surgically removed. He's Michael Scott's right hand man and Assistant to the Regional Manager, and he lives to have authority over his fellow workers. But if that was all his character was about, he probably wouldn't have made this list. He lacks social skills on every level, speaking in a strangely intense voice even when discussing trivial matters. His bizarre background as a bed and breakfast proprietor/beet farmer who is descended both from Nazi war criminals and the Amish really makes you wonder how anyone ever even thought of this character, and then tracked down Rainn Wilson to bring him to life.
