Community is an amazing and often underappreciated sitcom that was never shy to delve into darker storylines. That's not just in reference to the likes of The Darkest Timeline or Jeff accidentally killing Pierce's dad (spoilers), as the tragic history of each study group member could land them on this list.

Between Jeff and Abed's neglectful fathers, Pierce's racist upbringing, Troy's performance anxiety, Shirley's failed marriage and Britta's just being Britta, it's safe to say there's a whole bundle of group therapy needed here. Still, the one and only Annie Edison trumps them all with her incredibly traumatic experiences.

Annie was so concerned with academic achievements during High School (mostly thanks to her overbearing mother) that she got addicted to Adderall, had a nervous breakdown and ended up in rehab. As if that wasn't bad enough, this tragic scenario led her to become estranged from her family and cost her a college scholarship.
