10 TV Stars Who Controversially Left Their Hit Shows

4. Charlie Sheen - Two And A Half Men

Out of all the sudden television departures, Charlie Sheen's exit from Two and a Half Men was by far the most undignified. He had pretty much been playing a slightly less seedy version of himself on the inexplicably popular CBS sitcom, when his behavior started becoming more and more erratic. That's what massive drug use and very likely an undiagnosed mental disorder will do to you. His bizarre actions attracted the media, and when he began publicly insulting Chuck Lorre, his boss and showrunner, the network didn't have much of a choice. He had to go. The most popular character was kicked off a major network's hit show, leaving only the talented but less exciting Jon Cryer and Angus T Jones, stuck somewhere between puberty and adulthood and about to have a meltdown of his own. They weren't exactly subtle about their feelings towards the former star, either. Rather than writing his character off in an ambiguous manner, they chose instead to kill him, giving them no option to bring his character back in case of reconciliation.
