8. Uncle Simon
Barbara Polk must endure her Uncle Simon’s abusive nature if she is to inherit his vast fortune in this episode from season 5. After Simon comes up on the wrong end of a physical confrontation with his niece, it looks like Barabara will get the money and be rid of her abuser prematurely. However, there is a cruel prevision in the will which was obviously drawn up in The Twilight Zone.
In order to maintain her inheritance, Barbara must take care of her uncle’s creation. Before his death, cruel Uncle Simon built a robot-played by Robby the Robot- with artificial intelligence. The robot’s intelligence grows with every day and eventually is the spitting image of old Uncle Simon.
This type of AI technology was perfect for the fantasy world of The Twilight Zone. Today, AI is very common, more developed, and continuing to advance. AI gadgets like smartphones, smartwatches, and virtual assistants learn to engage their owners to better serve them.
