10 Underrated 1990s Anime You Probably Haven't Seen

3. Golden Boy

Revolutionary Girl Utena
A.P.P.P.

Golden Boy is the story of the namesake character, Oe Kintaro, a free-spirited rogue on a quest to find knowledge, enlightenment, and most importantly...sexy women.

Kintaro is a nobody in the world, an unemployed freeloader who moves from place to place, watching people and recording his observations in a journal. His mantra is "Study, study, study...!"

Kintaro is a pervert of the highest degree, but also a bit of a lucky dog because his stupid, clumsy charisma often wins over the people around him in the end. Each episode of the series essentially revolves around Kintaro trying to get involved in a beautiful lady's life to win her over, or getting a new job – in order to get involved in the life of a pretty lady who also works at said job.

Due to the adult themes, nudity, and very crude humor the series never saw a mainstream release in the west, relegated instead to VHS and DVD releases. As such only the most involved in the anime community during the nineties even have any idea the series exists, much less have seen it. The series is hilarious and surprisingly good-natured, considering the sexual humor and fan service involved.
