10 Unforgivable Mistakes That Ruined Great 2013 TV Shows
3. The Walking Dead Delivered On Its Central Conflict One Season Too Late
Season 3 of the Walking Dead was all about the central group's struggle with the maniacal Governor. The conflict between the Governor and Rick and company had built up during the entire 16-episode run of season 3, and all along it seemed it was approaching a climactic battle between Woodbury and the prison. By the end of season 3, the conflict reached a boiling point, and the Governor and his people invaded the prison. The long awaited climax was finally happening! But not really, as the result was a stealthy, relatively quiet ambush by Rick and company. This would not have been so frustrating if the Governor had died and the exact climax that viewers expected at the end of season 3 didn't occur during the mid-season finale of season 4. The writers first tricked the viewers into thinking they were watching the story of the conflict between the Governor and Rick's group, but it turned out that the main elements to the story were actually the death of Andrea and the salvation of Woodbury residents, the two scenes that concluded the third season. Then the writers tricked viewers again by bringing back the unnecessarily delayed resolution to the Governor conflict eight episodes too late. This postponement made the second half of the Walking Dead's third season seem superfluous and it forced the the first half of the fourth season to walk a trodden path.
