10 Unusual Demands Made By Guest Stars On The Simpsons
5. Tony Blair - Promote British Tourism
Whilst Harry Shearer had to provide the voice of George Bush in "Two Bad Neighbours", no such stand-in was needed for then-Prime Minister of Great Britain, Tony Blair. Mr. Blair voiced himself in Season 15's "The Regina Monologues" and boy did the writers have to move heaven and earth to get him.
The PM was a very busy man (can't imagine why) so it was right down to the wire whether or not he would guest on the show. In fact, showrunner Al Jean only found out Blair was actually taking part on the day before the recording, as he received a phone call whilst in London telling him Blair could spare fifteen minutes to contribute his part.
This wasn't the only crazy demand made by Blair's team. The original script had way more jokes for Blair, including him handing Marge a "complimentary Corgi" upon arriving in Britain. However, these lines were shot down, as Blair's team said that the Prime Minister was only interested in doing the guest spot if he could promote "British tourism". Clearly Tony had never met anyone from New Orleans before deciding The Simpsons was the best way to promote a place.
