10 Upcoming New HBO Series To Be Excited About

9. Lewis And Clark

Undaunted Courage: Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American West, written by Stephen Ambrose, tells the story of Lewis from the Lewis and Clark expedition. This series will be an adaptation of that book, starring Casey Affleck as Meriwether Lewis, and Matthias Schoenaerts as William Clark.

The expedition was commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson back in 1804, and lasted for around two years. It was the first expedition to cross what is now Western America, coming shortly after the Louisiana Purchase, to discover new lands and claim them for the US. They were charged with finding practical routes across the area, mapping the new locations as well, while also establishing an American presence there, and came across the now-fabled Sacagawea, who helped them on their travels.

While it will also focus on other aspects of Lewis' life before and after the expedition, the journey they undertake will form the bulk of the show, which is set to be a six-hour miniseries, meaning it should combine an epic story and character study with some stunning locations. Ed Norton, Brad Pitt, and Tom Hanks are all on-board as executive producers, so there's some real heavyweight talent behind this as well.
