10 US Adaptations Of UK TV Shows That Sucked

9. Coupling

Speaking of American shows that would adapt a British equivalent of an American show, we have BBC's Coupling. As one of the most underrated comedies on British TV, Coupling holds a very special place in people's hearts.

The show was centred around a group of thirty-somethings telling stories of an event, but with dramatic differences. It was unique in that it often used split-screen shots to show separate moments and wasn't afraid to include disjointed narrative. Despite a slow uptake, Coupling eventually took off and garnered a very dedicated fan base.

When it came to the end of Friends, American networks were desperately flailing, trying to grab the next big thing in sitcoms. NBC stumbled across Coupling and, even though its British version was only one season in, decided to bet on the plucky little show. However, in some kind of lunacy, they rejected Moffatt's original scripts and instantly set the show on a path to disaster.

Coupling was given a great time slot, right after Will and Grace but still couldn't attract an audience. After only four episodes, the show was pulled from the schedule leaving the other six episodes unaired.
