Jon Hamm probably would've done fine if he hadn't got the Mad Men job, though. Being mired so deeply in the comedy community won him a chance at auditioning for 30 Rock, going in for the role eventually played by Alec Baldwin. It would definitely have been a different Jack Donaghy than everyone became used to, but Hamm probably would've knocked it out of the park. For one thing, he's been brilliant in broad comedic roles like his uncredited part in Bridesmaids, and for another, Donaghy is basically the silly version of Don Draper's stoic, old fashioned man's man. He apparently auditioned early on into the casting process for the show. Eventually he ended up appearing as one of star and show creator Tina Fey's many ill-fated boyfriends, a doctor who coasted through like on his good looks. Fun bonus fact: 30 Rock and Mad Men are connected by Old Spanish, a drink ordered made of red wine, tonic, vinegar and olives that Matthew Broderick's 30 Rock character orders and is drank in Mad Men's season four finale.
