10 Ways Sons Of Anarchy Must Continue

7. A Real Sense Of Authenticity

Sutter€™s gone on record as saying that any Mayan spin-off will need a showrunner that understands what that means, preferably someone with an Hispanic heritage. Not him, in other words €“ and there€™ll need to be other changes to reflect the racial and cultural make-up of the Mayan MC. Race was never an issue for the Sons except as a signifier of otherness: it was something other people had to deal with, a way of marking other gangs in a convenient shorthand, black, brown and yellow. That€™s to be expected: the MC was all white except for Juice, and even there the poor boy was convinced that his mixed race heritage would be a deal breaker for the club if they found out. The Hispanic and Latino point of contact with their culture, language and history €“ their heritage €“ is a shifting sand of perspective and pride that doesn€™t have an equivalence in white culture, and that would be a big part of any Mayan Sons Of Anarchy spin-off.
