Brooklyn 99: The Night Shift

New Girl: Homecoming

Brooklyn 99 is a sitcom about outlandish police officers solving crimes. New Girl is a sitcom about a quirky girl who moves in with new roommates. Both are Fox shows, and comedies, but the crossover was still an odd choice.

The New Girl characters live in Los Angeles, Brooklyn 99 takes place in New York. Both are big cities, but no where near each other. Likewise, all of the New Girl main characters fly to New York for this crossover - even Nick, who has issues with debt, is somehow able to swing the expensive trip.

Normally, for two-part specials like this, an overarching story will connect the two shows. In this case, The Night Shift is primarily a standard Brooklyn 99 episode with a short guest appearance of Jess from New Girl.

Homecoming, on the other hand, puts most of the cast of Brooklyn 99 into the New Girls episode. The excuse used to get the New Girl cast to New York is that Schmidt is having a kind of high school reunion which he believes will be honoring him. Spoiler: it's not.

It's a decent episode, but it doesn't make good use of the extended cast of characters.
