10 'What Ifs' That Could Have Changed The Course Of Star Trek
9. ...Enterprise Hadn't Been Cancelled
Season five of Enterprise. The fabled year that even has Facebook groups devoted to discussing its potential for the last 15 years and yes, should have happened.
Unquestionably the season would have taken us into the Romulan War. Maybe fans would have been able to get a definitive onscreen answer to who Future Guy was and, shock, horror, gasp, viewers might have been saved from the bumbled finale that was These Are the Voyages... .
Manny Coto's hand on the tiller in season four had redirected Enterprise and given it much needed focus. He pointed it to become a proper bona fide prequel series that covered all those things that fans wanted to know. It ticked off the Eugenics War, Vulcan history, the Mirror Universe, Klingon ridges and even the transporter. To borrow from a show it's captain might be familiar with, righting wrongs that its first three seasons had managed to scramble.
A fifth year would have been the show's high point and taken the series into territory only the ongoing Rise of the Federation books have managed to do while solidifying canon further. What would have followed this show? Something to bridge to gap to Kirk but categorically it wouldn't have looked like Discovery.
