10 Worst Buffy The Vampire Slayer Episodes
8. Him (Season 7, Episode 6)
With the possible exception of Season 6, Buffy’s seventh season is her darkest hour. ‘Him’, on the other hand, is a pretty light-hearted episode. The tone of the story is reminiscent of the earlier seasons due to the school setting and the wacky plot.
Whilst this may seem like a good excuse for some nostalgia, Dawn’s awkward adolescent romance is painful to watch. Sure, it’s meant to be, but it becomes wearisome rather quickly. The cheerleading scene, for instance, might be the most cringeworthy moment in the entire show.
As the episode progresses, other girls start falling for Dawn’s love interest, including Buffy. This leads to plenty of verbal spats between the characters. And though these scenes are entertaining, the tone of the episode feels off compared with the rest of the season.
Still, if you view this episode in isolation, it’s not without merit. Buffy’s attempt to kill the principal is hilarious and the Xander-Spike double act is great to witness as well.
