10 Worst Buffy The Vampire Slayer Villains

4. The Anointed One (Season 1 And Season 2)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Mutant Enemy

The Anointed One is the most bizarre villain in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He first appears in the fifth episode of Season 1, and his arrival is foreshadowed by a prophecy from the Writings of Aurelius.

“…in this time shall come the Anointed, the Master's great warrior. And the Slayer will not know him, will not stop him, and he will lead her into Hell. Five will die, and from their ashes, the Anointed shall rise.”

It turns out the Anointed One is actually a kid called Collin, and after the death of the Master, he becomes the new leader of the Order of Aurelius. Given what was written in the prophecy, you’d expect there to be some kind of showdown between Buffy and the Anointed One – but there isn’t.

When Spike swaggers onto the scene at the start of Season 2, he murders the Anointed One by locking him in a cage and exposing him to a blaze of sunlight. Killing off this redundant character was a wise decision from the writers, but why did they need to include him in the first place?

No matter how many times you re-watch the show, the Anointed One’s time in Sunnydale always feels like a complete waste of time.
