7. Steal The Money From Bart’s Ad
The Simpsons’ 300th episode Barting Over falls way short of the standards set by the 100th and 200th (Sweet Seymour Skinner’s Badasssss Song and Trash Of The Titans, respectively), but it still includes an interesting insight into Homer’s selfishness. It begins with Lisa finding a tape labelled Bart Sad, which turns out instead to be Bart’s Ad.
After yet another gag lampooning The Simpsons’ stint as Butterfinger sellers, it’s revealed that Bart used to be Baby Stink Breath, a mascot of a company designed to make your baby’s breath smell better. When the Simpson kids wonder where the money has gone, it turns out Homer has squandered it all.
Furious that he’ll now get no reward for his humiliating shilling, Bart sues for emancipation and Homer’s wages are garnished to pay for Bart’s new downtown loft.
The episode doesn’t do all that much with an interesting premise, but it’s enough to warrant entry here.
He’s a similarly poor father when it comes to money and his kids in another episode, where he bets his savings against Lisa in a crossword contest. In fairness, Gil hustles her and Homer cleans up.
