9. God's Favourite Idiot
The premise of God's Favourite Idiot is simple enough: An office worker is struck by lightning and learns that he's been chosen as the messenger of God, responsible for adverting the apocalypse.
Starring creator Ben Falcone and wife Melissa McCarthy, the Netflix comedy sounds like a fun and philosophical successor to The Good Place, but lacks the intelligence or complex characters to make it work. Worse still, the humour is so silly and forced, not even McCarthy can deliver her lines with any kind of follow-through.
Thematically thin, God's Favourite Idiot finds talented stars tackling a promising idea, but are unable to give it the gravitas or wit needed to make it work on the screen.
In another, far-off life, perhaps when writers and casting agents knew what to do with McCarthy's undeniable talents, this would have been a hit, but in the end it's just another Netflix dud waiting for the axe.
