10. The Sex Pistols On The Today Show
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtHPhVhJ7Rs Although a rock band behaving badly on a prime time TV show might not be anything close to a big deal now (remember how similar behaviour went for punk poseur Donny Tourette on Never Mind The Buzzcocks?), back in the 1970s this was fodder for all kinds of outcry. When the Sex Pistols appeared on the early evening live TV show Today in late 1976, an interview that lasted just over a couple of minutes involved members of the band and their entourage (including Siouxsie Sioux) dropping a few f-bombs, bragging about their new-found wealth and generally raising hell with glee - worsened by self-proclaimed drunk host, Bill Grundy, seemingly provoking them to be even more naughty. This short clip led to widespread panic about the punk movement, and its potential to corrupt the young folk, whilst providing grounds for the ascent of the Sex Pistols' notoriety and fame. Grundy, however, didn't come out of it so well; his failure to control his guests coupled with his own behaviour was enough to leave his own career in tatters.
