10 X-Files Episodes That Should Have Been Horror Movies

Season six of The X-Files is often considered to be something of a low-point amongst fans due to its overreliance on comedic episodes, as opposed to the macabre horror stories that dominated earlier seasons.

One episode that managed to blend the season's lighter tone with the creepy monsters we'd come to expect was 'Arcadia'. A fun little tale that saw Mulder and Scully go undercover in a gated community, posing as a married couple to avoid the suspicions of the straight-laced yuppies that reside there.

And as you'd expect, beneath all the perfectly cut grass and suburban fakery, is something much more sinister than simple yuppies.

Enter the Ubermenscher, a creature comprised of mulch and garbage that rises from the earth to keep order in the community. The Neighborhood Watch can summon this creature at will to punish those who don't abide by their strict, and often completely ludicrous rules.

There's a lot of fun to be had with this premise, as it's the perfect way of mixing biting social-satire with the inherent silliness of a creature summoned from the filth beneath the picturesque suburbia. With the right creative team at the helm, this one has cult classic written all over it.
