10 X-Files Fates Worse Than Death

6. Being Stalked

The X-Files Unruhe
Fox

Stalking another is a great way to create mounting tension and The X-Files is no stranger to it.

One of the best instances of the show doing this was in the 1997 episode, Detour in which creatures with glowing red eyes and the ability to camouflage themselves attacked and killed those who entered Apalachicola National Forest in Florida. Famously, a boy who managed to escape from the seemingly idyllic spot was later cornered in his home when the creatures came looking for him.

Mulder ultimately realised that the seemingly invisible creatures perceived an invasion of their territory as an open invitation for them to pursue the invader, wherever he or she went. Indeed, Mulder only just saved Scully in time from a creature that was lurking beneath her hotel bed!

Just imagine the prospect of being stalked for the rest of your life (however long that may be) by something that you cannot even see...

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
