7. Pennsatucky Gets Raped
Following the conclusion of the first season of the show, it was hard to believe that the writers would ever be able to make the crazed, meth-head character of Pennsatucky even slightly sympathetic. However, a trip to Psych soon put paid to that theory and the former psychopath started to adjust - and even thrive - in the general population again.
In the third season she has even managed to strike up a solid friendship with Big Boo - of all people - and it is this she falls back on when she is raped by new prison guard Coates, with whom she had been building something of a relationship with in the episodes prior.
The rape is devastating and flashes back to some of the earlier scenes viewers watch in the episode - which showed some more of Pennsatucky's life before prison - where she had experienced similar incidents.
The fact that it happens so suddenly and practically on the prison grounds themselves make it all the more shocking to witness.
