11 Bizarre '90s Cartoons That Only Ran One Season

6. Wish Kid

Extreme Ghostbusters
NBC

Children of the nineties do have on fad to answer for: the inescapability of Macaulay Culkin. He was everywhere post-Home Alone, on commercials, music videos, video games, horror movies and, of course, his own animated series.

Wish Kid followed the story of Nicolas McClary, modelled after Culkin's appearance and general demeanor, who was in possession of a baseball glove hit by a magic shooting star that has the power to grant a wish a week. Each story, featuring a live-action intro from Culkin, focused on that week's wish and the zany (and always lesson-learning) adventures upon which he embarks.

Wish Kid was produced by the popular company Dic, but also had money from a major Italian production company managed by Silvio Berlusconi's eldest grandaughter.

The only real scandal connected to the show dealt with its theme song, a parody of Chantilly Lace that had to be replaced with an instrumental due to copyright violations.

Otherwise, it's much like a lot of what Culkin's early career represented: safe, wholesome, hermetically sealed entertainment the whole family would be too bored to object to.

Kenny Hedges is carbon-based. So I suppose a simple top 5 in no order will do: Halloween, Crimes and Misdemeanors, L.A. Confidential, Billy Liar, Blow Out He has his own website - thefilmreal.com - and is always looking for new writers with differing views to broaden the discussion.
