11 Classic Twilight Zone Episodes That Could Be Improved By Colorization
1. Most of the Comedies
Comedies in general are better served by color than dramas
are. (Unless of course, the use of black
and white is itself part of the joke, as is the case in Young Frankenstein, or
Three Stooges shorts, which are
designed to look like serious dramatic movies that the Stooges have somehow
been deposited into). Two or three dozen
Twilight Zone episodes can be considered full or partial comedies, with others
having at least light and/or unintentionally funny moments in them.
To cite two examples, episodes such as Mr. Bevis and Cavender is Coming, both of which involve normal schmoes (Orson Bean and Carol Burnett) being visited by a wacky Guardian Angel, would work just as well in color, if not better.
One exception to this rule, however, is an episode called Mr. Garrity and the Graves, which starts out as a serious, almost sinister story about a man coming to a western town claiming to be able to raise the dead, and then swerves into being a comedy about halfway through. This one needs to look as serious as possible to maintain a dramatic atmosphere as long as possible, and so should stay in black and white.
