Early this year, Todd McFarlane broke his silence on the state of the animated adaptation of his undead, Hell-powered antihero: the story was solid, the voice actors had recorded their parts, and background animation was completed. All that was needed was the right studio to put it together. The series would (somewhat obliquely) reference the HBO 1997-1999 series. Anticipation Level: Meh. That earlier Spawn was one of the best-produced comics adaptations of the 1990s, but that was the 1990s and the comic, while never great literature, is selling at a small fraction of its nineties levels.
