11 Geeky Facts About The Big Bang Theory You Didn't Know

1. The Bazinga Bee

Whilst 'Bazinga' may strike a Big Bang fan as a great name for a family pet, a group of South American scientists took this a little further - by deciding to name a whole species of orchid bee after the catchphrase. In 2012, the 'bazinga bee' (or to get technical, Euglossa bazinga) was discovered in Brazil. Biologist Andre Nemesio stated that the decision to name it such came from the fact that the vibrant bee had "tricked" them for some time, leading them to erroneously misidentify it as Euglossa ignita rather than an entirely different species of bee. TBBT executive producer Steven Molaro stated that they were "extremely flattered" by the decision, and that "Sheldon would be honored to know that Euglossa bazinga was inspired by him. In fact, after ''Mothra'' and griffins, bees are his third-favorite flying creatures." That being said, "Bazinga" would be an awesome name for a griffin...
