12 Actors Who Hated Their Own TV Characters

11. Katherine Heigl - Izzie Stevens (Grey's Anatomy)

Oh, Katherine Heigl. Perhaps no actress has so effectively torpedoed her own career by repeatedly opening her mouth when she shouldn't, and surely no instance is more damaging than her flat dismissal of her tenure as Izzie Stevens on the hit show Grey's Anatomy.

Though Heigl's work on the medical drama won her the 2007 Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, her disappointment with the direction of her character - especially an ill-advised romantic subplot - led her to refuse to submit her work for an Emmy nomination the very next year.

She said in retrospect, "I wasn’t feeling good about my work that season, no."

Heigl managed to cling on for a good while longer and was eventually written out of the show in 2010 after asking to be released from her contract 18 months early.

Though she did express an interest in returning to Grey's Anatomy in 2012 after several of her movies tanked at the box office, creator Shonda Rhimes quickly rubbished the idea. Ouch.
