12 April 2017 TV Shows To Watch Instead Of Game Of Thrones

9. Guerrilla - Season 1

Guerrilla Idris Elba
Sky Atlantic

Another series that should have a lot to say about race-relations, albeit this time from a few decades ago (and yet sadly still relevant today), Guerrilla comes from 12 Years A Slave writer John Ridley.

The six-part miniseries takes place in London, where a politically motivated couple (played by Freida Pinto and and Babou Ceesay) liberate a political prisoner, and go on to form an underground cell that aims to take on the Black Power Desk, a unit which aims to crush black activism.

Part racial and political drama, part love story, it sounds like a potentially explosive series, and it's got some megastar wattage as well: Idris Elba is on-board to play the aforementioned political prisoner, known only as Kent.

Premiere Date: April 16
