4. Xander Harris
Alexander LaVelle "Xander" Harris (Nicholas Brendon) begins his life on Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a clumsy, geeky student at Sunnydale High School. A lifelong friend of Willow Rosenberg, he becomes friends with Buffy when she joins the school and remains friends with her throughout the series. Despite his distinct lack of powers, Xander is invaluable to the Scoobies. His heart and ability to see what others don't gets them out of countless tricky situations. His research is always helpful, while his actions in combat situations should not be underestimated. He even brought Buffy back to life after she died and saved the world on one occasion, by appealing to Willow's humanity when she was going to destroy the planet. In the final season Xander loses an eye in a fight with the evil priest Caleb, but this didn't deter him. He kept fighting and even survived the final fight with the ubervamp army of the First Evil. Xander is witty and funny and his personality was often just what the Scoobies needed in their toughest times. While his relationships with the other characters (some platonic, some sexual, some filled with hatred (Spike)) were some of the highlights of the show.
