9. Jaqen In The Cells

Game Of Thrones Jaqen

The Faceless Men are a guild of assassins with an incomparable track record - the deadliest killers in the known lands, capable of changing faces and slipping away like shadows. And somehow, one of these men was captured and put in the black cells at King's Landing.

How, exactly, did Jaqen H'ghar wind-up there?

One possibility is to take it at, er, face value and that he was just legitimately caught for a crime, most likely murder, but it's hard to imagine a scenario where he couldn't escape given how gifted he is. That then suggests he was there by design, but begs the question of why?

Some suggest it was a quick way to get himself to the Wall, either for a contract there or to investigate the White Walkers, but he could've just volunteered to take the Black. Another is that he had to kill someone who was in the black cells. Or maybe the real Jaqen was imprisoned, but the Faceless Man took his place before Harrenhal. Or there's the old Jaqen is really Syrio chestnut...

Whatever the reason, and it doesn't seem likely we'll get an answer, a man does not simply end up in the black cells.
