Speaking of Howland Reed, there are some who think he is the mysterious Knight of the Laughing Tree. But backing up slightly, who is this knight?

During the infamous tourney at Harrenhal (the same one where Lyanna Stark was crowned Queen of Beauty by Rhaegar Targaryen), a Crannogman - widely accepted to be Howland Reed - was bullied by three squires. In the ensuing lists, the knights they served were defeated by a mysterious rider who wore mismatched armour, and demanded that they teach their squires honour.

The identity was never revealed, despite the best efforts of those present, but we do know that they must've witnessed or heard of what happened to the Crannogman, and that the person was short, had a booming voice (which wasn't what they really sounded like), wasn't a regular knight, and quite possibly hailed from the North due to the weirwood tree symbol on their shield.

The most popular theory is that it was Lyanna, who had already fought off the squires for Howland. She was a good rider and wanted to carry a sword, and would've fit the physical description too. Another, as mentioned, is that it's Howland himself, while others suggest one of the Stark brothers (Benjen, Brandon, or Eddard), though none fit quite as snugly as Lyanna.
