12 Friends Actors Who Are No Longer With Us

3. Dick Clark

Who Was He? A legendary television personality, who was the host of American Bandstand for 30 years, a music show that was a precursor to the likes of Top of the Pops and Soul Train and introduced new genres and artists to large parts of America, including rock'n'roll and the likes of Stevie Wonder and Simon & Garfunkel. He was also famous for hosting Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, which broadcast live from Times Square, and created the American Music Awards. He died after suffering a heart-attack aged 82.

Role On Friends: Dick Clark, host of Dick€™n Rock€™n Dickie Eve. Otherwise known as Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve. He made a cameo on the show in The One With The Monkey, which takes place on New Year's Eve, as they watch his show on the TV. However, he's more memorable for being referenced in The One With The Routine, although he doesn't actually appear. Monica and Ross get to go on his show, which - and not a lot of people know this - is taped in advance, and then the bit with Dick Clark is live from Times Square, giving us that incredible dance scene.

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
