6. Illyrio Mopatis

Last Seen: Conspiring with Varys in the first season in King's Landing. They presumably also met later to talk over the assassination of Danaerys when her pregnancy is discovered.

Like Varys, Ilyrio fancies himself as something of a king-maker and a manipulator in the Game of Thrones, who can see what is best for the realm and it willing to make it happen no matter what the cost in blood. He's also important as the man who gave Dany her dragons and basically set her in motion to sit on the Iron Throne.

Having set those wheels in motion, he simply disappeared (aside from two mentions of him in later seasons). So we still have no real idea why he wanted Robert Baratheon off the throne in the first place. Perhaps that's why there's a chance he'll return?

Could He Return?

Possibly. There has to be a reason he wanted Dany on the Iron Throne (presumably because it would be favourable to him or those he works with), so he MAY turn up again at the end of things. Don't expect him to be anywhere the action though.
