12 Game Of Thrones Spoilers You'll Know Before The Books

3. The War To End All Wars

Much like JRR Tolkien's works, Martin's arcs all lead towards one final war. It's not as if the warring factions are all of a sudden going to declare peace and live in political harmony. So far, large-scale battles have been scarce in the show, but it seems inevitable that every individual narrative strand is heading towards that point in the future. And delightfully, it looks like the climactic battle is going to be fought on multiple fronts: a perfect storm pitting every warring faction - every spoke on the wheel - as well as the wildcard of the Others and the wights. It can't come soon enough, and it's likely to be multiple years before it actually happens in the books. The Theory Dany's dragons will prove to be the perfect antidote to what remains of the Others, while the human costs are likely to be bigger than any body count that's gone before. But other than that, all bets are off.
