Whether you care to admit it or not, there is actually another Stark child still on the loose after Rickon was sent into hiding by his elder brother to attempt to preserve the last of the Stark line. In the books, it has been established that Rickon is alive and in Skagos with Osha - where Ser Davos is sent to recover him - but whether he will stay that way remains to be seen, particularly since Skagos is apparently inhabited by cannibals and unicorns. At some point, both the show and the books will have to explore which one found him first. The Theory Killing him would add little, but having him survive would add even less. Martin has proved himself happy enough to kill off innocents for effect, and right now it's hard to resist the idea that Rickon is entirely superfluous and that his death could be used to advance someone else's story.
