12 Greatest One-Off Simpsons Characters
2. Hank Scorpio
Albert Brooks is a hit machine when it comes to Simpsons characters, with Jacques, Brad Goodman, and movie antagonist Russ Cargill under his belt. Most would likely agree, however, that his greatest contribution as Hank Scorpio, the Bond villain who becomes Homer’s best ever boss in “You Only Move Twice”.
A fast talking, gleefully insane bad guy, Hank Scorpio runs the outwardly benign Globex Corporation while trying to take over the world simultaneously. He is prone to some twisting, turning trains of thought, eager to discuss the phenomenon of a man saying goodbye to a shoe, and his views on Cypress Creek’s hammock district.
Brooks, a true comedic talent, was given license to ad lib parts of his dialogue, giving Scorpio’s conversations with Homer a distinctive vibe as the performers bounce off one another in a manner rarely seen.
The larger than life character would be out of place in The Simpsons’ regular universe, but his episode is a perfect showcase for a performer of Brooks’ wild talents, and the scene in which he has Homer hang up his coat is one of the funniest ever.
