12 Greatest One-Off Simpsons Characters
10. Mindy Simmons
Homer and Marge’s marriage comes under scrutiny and attack more often than most unions. We’d seen Homer withstand the advances of country songstress Lurleen Lumpkins by this point, but his workplace crush on Mindy Simmons proved to be far greater a temptation for the Simpsons patriarch.
Mindy is, essentially, the female Homer - she gets away with as little work as she can, she loves doughnuts, and generally has the same slobbish approach to life as our hero. Voiced by Michelle Pfeiffer, Mindly is pitched as the perfect woman for Homer (whose own family have, through various ailments and incidents, as one become particularly unappealing in the short term).
Pfeiffer is given a good bit of character to work with, and she and the script ensure that Mindy is more than just a stock villain. She and Homer find themselves drawn together, but both know that they need to fight their urges, and make every effort to do so while fates conspire to keep them close.
Mindy is ultimately just the obstacle to a Homer and Marge reunion, but she’s a strong character all the same. She could be little more than a fantasy for Homer - instead she gets a perspective of her own and the semblance of a life outside The Simpsons.
