12 Hilariously Bad Attempts To Reboot Classic TV Shows

9. The IT Crowd

Poor old NBC are really not coming out of this very well. On the strength of the first UK series, an American version of The IT Crowd was commissioned starring Community's Joel McHale as Roy and Richard Ayoade reprising his role as Moss. After a pilot episode was made in early 2007, a first series was ordered and advertised by NBC. As funny as Joel McHale can be €“ replacing Chris O'Dowd who would later become popular in the US for his role in Bridesmaids €“ is nothing short of a glaring error. Perhaps his accent put the network off but for a show that centres on the relationship between Roy and Moss, and breaking up that duo is starting on the wrong foot. By the end of 2007 the show had been cancelled without having any further episodes made. According the 'The Hollywood Reporter' this was down to a change of NBC chairman who said it failed to 'spark' with him. Those who saw it at the time were surprised how the reboot managed somehow to just not be funny even though it stuck very close to the original scripts. This resurfaced when the pilot leaked online in 2012. It seems this may have been the ultimate reason the reboot never got off the ground, which is a shame because more Moss is a good thing in my book.
