12 Incredible TV Episodes (That Fans HATED)
4. The Finale - Mad Men
There was no way that series creator Matthew Weiner could have hoped to keep Mad Men fans happy with whatever series finale he chose. But it’s nonetheless bizarre that fans despised the show’s cynical, comical denouement, wherein troubled antihero Don Draper appears to come up with Coke’s infamous “I’d Like to Buy the World A Coke” campaign whilst attempting to reach Nirvana.
The scene is a flawless encapsulation of Draper’s flaws and positive attributes, as his media-poisoned mind manages to warp inner peace into further profits, and on a more macro level it’s a perfect example of Draper and co.’s remorseless consumerist mindset wrestling hippie culture’s movement into submission and forcing it to fit America’s prevailing profit-centred ethos.
We said it was a perfect ending, not a happy one.
