A friendship is something that requires a bit of give and take on both sides. Because friends care about each other, if something is wrong or someone is going through troubles, their friends will want to know. They will want to help. They care.

BoJack Horseman never quite grasped this concept, however. Instead of turning to the likes of Diane, Todd, Princess Carolyn, or even Mr. Peanutbutter when things got tough for him, his reaction was to cut them off completely. Instead of the comfort of his friends, he chose isolation.

Vanishing for months on end, either driving to visit Charlotte in New Mexico, or spending even longer in Michigan fixing up the old Sugarman place, BoJack shut out everyone who could have helped him, avoiding any kind of contact with them at all.

He didn't stop to think that his friends would worry about him with no contact, never even considering a simple phone call to let them know that he was still alive. Even when he came back to L.A, he waited weeks before letting them know he was home.
