12 TV Comedies You Need To Be Watching

The new golden age of television comedy has begun.

Over the past few years, many iconic TV comedies have come to an end, leaving fans desperately searching for something new to fill the void. Original greats like 30 Rock, The Office, Parks and Recreation, How I Met Your Mother and Futurama all went off the air within a few years of each other, while so many new sitcoms struggled to live up to that high standard as replacements, many cancelled before we even got to know them at all.

Let's face it, Selfie and Animal Practice aren't about to become your new addiction. Nobody is going to remember S*it My Dad Says with William Shatner as anything more than a complete and utter waste of time. And how Melissa and Joey managed to make over 100 episodes before viewers were put out of their misery, we'll never know.

While the hole in your heart left by the absence of Leslie Knope and Liz Lemon may seem impossible to fill, there are an extraordinary amount of new comedies on TV that aren't getting the credit they deserve and for which you should be watching.

This article runs down 12 such shows which you need to give a real chance to right now...

12. Nathan For You

Nathan For You is one of the funniest things on our tv screens, and not nearly enough people are watching it.

Somewhat similar to classic Sacha Baron Cohen, the show follows a comedian doing a bit around real people who have no idea he’s screwing with them. The premise is that Nathan hosts a show where he helps struggling small businesses improve with a few tips and marketing strategies.

But here’s the catch: almost all of his advice is terrible. Nathan Fielder plays a really awkward guy who gets these businesses involved in increasingly weird ideas, and usually because they’re on TV, they just go along with it. This includes having a pizza place offer eight minute delivery or you get a free pizza, but when they inevitably don’t arrive in eight minutes, you just get a tiny pizza that’s only a few inches in diameter. You still have to pay for the actual pizza.

The Nathan character makes for some of the best cringe comedy out there. He means well but just has absolutely no self-awareness, constantly fumbling through sentences and asking his guests if they want to hang out when this is over. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction, and the real situations captured on Nathan For You are often far more insane and hilarious than anything a group of writers could come up with.
