Hillary Duff's series about a young teenage girl working through her issues alongside an animated version of herself, who performed soliloquies expressing her inner thoughts is coming back to television, thanks to Disney+. The show originally ran between 2001 and 2004, with a total of 65 episodes, which will be added to the new series.

The sequel series was announced in August 2019 by Disney+, and it will center on the eponymous character, now a 30-year-old woman making her way in New York City. Duff revealed a few tidbits of information on ABC's Good Morning America, where she said the adult Lizzie will work as an interior designer apprentice.

She also revealed that she would be living in Brooklyn, and she has a fiancé, but something will happen, and her world will change abruptly. A few actors from the original series are set to return, including Jake Thomas as her brother Matthew "Matt" McGuire, Hallie Todd as her mother Joanne "Jo" McGuire, and Robert Carradine as Lizzie's father Samuel "Sam" McGuire.

The sequel/new season will release sometime in 2020 on Disney+, but the actual air date has yet to be released by late 2019.
